Treat Yourself: Art in Columbia County, New York

If you live within driving distance of New York's beautiful Hudson Valley, you really ought to treat yourself to a wonderful summer art show. Three Columbia-County painters, Leslie Gabosh, Patricia Gravett and Barbara Willner, have a bounty of beautiful paintings and drawings on display in a delightful venue, the Old Chatham Country Store.

Nestled in the village square of Old Chatham, the store is surrounded by the gorgeous rolling green countryside of Columbia County -- horse country -- with miles of white pasture fencing.
The store is itself a landmark worth seeing. It stocks a few groceries, but its real claim to fame is fine food. (We ate an amazing meal there last night.) If you're planning a trip, be sure to call ahead for reservations, especially on the weekends, as the charming little cafe fills up fast on summer evenings.

The art show, which includes a host of magnificent still life paintings, as well as landscapes, opened this week for the month of June. A formal reception is planned for Sunday, June 12th, 3 - 5 p.m.
